ralph lauren ropa Acre Estate in Katonah
MARTHA STEWART already has homes in Manhattan, Westport, East Hampton and Seal Harbor, Me. Now she has one in Westchester too.
Her new neighbors include Ralph Lauren, Michael Crichton and George Soros.
With her official closing Nov. 3 on the property known as Cantitoe Corners here, Ms. Stewart has restored the 152 acre estate to its original boundaries as a single property. It had been divided into four parcels for descendants of George and Ruth Sharp, who had owned the property for more than 50 years. Ms. Stewart acquired two parcels last spring.
The asking price for all four parcels was $15.7 million, with the sale going through for about $15.2 million.
The estate includes five houses: a 1784 farmhouse, an 1897 cottage, a 1929 Colonial style ”winter house” and two homes built in 1969. There are also 117.65 acres of undeveloped meadows and woodlands.
Although Ms. Stewart had written a magazine essay about her disenchantment with Westport, her home there complete with television studio is not on the market, he said.
The property is at the intersection of Girdle Ridge Road and Maple Avenue, in an area zoned for house lots of at least four acres. It is about a quarter mile from Caramoor.
The Howard Herring, executive director of Caramoor, Howard Herring, said: ”She’s been here already, and we were pleased to have her here on opening night in June to meet Yo Yo Ma. I would hope that we could find some jointly beneficial projects, perhaps relating to gardens.” MERRI ROSENBERG
